Drag and Drop

Drag and Drop operations are supported in the Primary DIT,Primary DIT, Primary DIT. Since Drap and Drop involve writing to the DIT the appropriate permissions must be available.

When a DIT entry is selected it may be dragged, by holding down the right mouse button, and dropped at any location in a DIT. If the CTRL key is held down during the operation this will copy the Entry (and all its associated child entries, if present) to the drop location. If the CTRL key is not held down this will move the Entry (and all its associated child entries, if present) to the user selected drop location.

A Copy Drag'n Drop operation is the equivalent of a Copy menu command followed by a Paste Branch menu command. Confirmation of the source DN, destination DN and number of Entries to be copied is presented to the user before the Copy is actioned. During the Copy drag operation the cursor provides visible confirmation of the Copy:

A Move Drag'n Drop operation is the equivalent of a Cut menu command followed by a Paste Branch menu command. Confirmation of the source DN, destination DN and number of Entries to be moved is presented to the user before the Move is actioned. During the Move (Cut) drag operation the cursor provides visible confirmation of the Move:

Notes:

  1. Entries may be drag and dropped (moved or copied) within a DIT or between DITs.

  2. Entries may be drag and dropped (moved or copied) between instances of LDAPviewer.

  3. Any outstanding Copy or Cut information will be cleared on completion of a drag and drop (Paste and Paste Alias will be disabled).

  4. If the drop location is invalid a status message will be displayed (the user may turn all status messages to user prompts by using the Preferences item from the Options menu). The status message may be:

    1. Invalid: bad drop location. The drop location is not in a DIT tree.
    2. Invalid: Destination cannot be same as source. The source and drop location are the same.
    3. Invalid: Destination in same branch. The drop location is in the same branch as the source.
