LDAPviewer

LDAPviewer - Replace Help Files

LDAPviewer comes with an extensive HTML help system. If LDAPviewer is installed on a system using Java 8 (JRE 1.8) or higher the user will see help buttons on all windows and pop-up windows. Clicking these buttons will bring up a context help screen from the local file system.

In cases where LDAPviewer is installed on systems using less than Java 8 (JRE 1.8) there will be no help buttons. (LDAPviewer will run on any system with Java 6 (JRE 1.6) or higher.) In this case a web based help service can be invoked from the Help Menu.

All help files are installed locally, irrespective of the Java version in use, in the LDAPviewer help directory. By loading a local browser and navigating to this directory and selecting the index.html file, help may be invoked locally on any Java release. A single, language specific, set of help files are installed.

The help files are validated to HTML 5 format and may be replaced or customized by the user with only a modest knowledge of HTML and CSS required. In addition HTML fragments may be added for custom objectClasses or attributes. Since this feature uses a very restricted HTML set and no CSS even less knowledge is required.

An HTML help development package and utility are available to assist those contemplating language translation or extensive help modifications.
