Description

A NamedNodeMap is an array of unordered Nodes which is accessed using its metods and attributes, in particular, using the name of the entity. The most common use of NamedNodeMap is when used with the Attributes attribute of the Node and the examples illustrate this usage. Each attribute in the NamedNodeMap may be accessed using the Attr Interface.

Syntax

Attributes

length - number of items in NamedNodeMap array

Examples

ns = new Array();
// get an element 
element = document.getElementById("one");
// get NamedNodeMap of its attributes
map = element.attributes;
// use node methods or attributes to access
for(i = 0; i < map.length; i++)
{
  ns[i] = map[i].name + "=" + map[i].value;	// save attribute name and value in array
}

// using name property

node = map.getNamedItem("class");

// returns a node of nodeType = 2 (ATTRIBUTE_NODE)

The first example gets a NamedNodeMap (map) of all the attributes of this node. We then enumerate all attributes and their values. The second example returns a Node containing all the information about the "class" (named) attribute. The Node is an ATTRIBUTE_NODE (nodeType = 2).
