W3C Event Reference. Part of the Events Interface
addEventListener Method
Adds an event handler function to the specified object (element). The function is automatically supplied with the 'event' object reference. Multiple functions may be registered for the same event on the same object.

window.addEventListener("mousemove",follow,false); function follow(e) { v = e.clientX; // more code }
The function follow() will be called every time the mousemove event is triggered anywhere in the browser window. The event object attributes are exposed. In the example we get the X (horizontal) co-ordinate of the event e.g. a mouse click.
Gecko only provides mouse buttons for events that trigger the events 'click', 'mousedown', 'mouseup'.
